I put my walking shoes and went off. It’s been four days and three nights since my days were so ordinary. Nothing really in particular. I was looking on the orange-filled sky with my bag holding and my shades on. I could feel the burning rays coming from an extraterrestrial body that illuminated the skies. The spot where I stood was overlooking the city. The cacophony of streets, the traffic lights, the chasing cars… I could pick up on everything under the roasting sun, including the ongoing development of the infrastructures. Gloominess was half-present, and thoughts filled the other half.
My sweat was starting to roll down on my forehead down to my cheek, wasting away my face powder that I had put on. *sigh. Everything and every person I was seeing seemed so busy! Here, there and everywhere! Had I been born naïve, I could not come to realize what kind of life I am living now, a life where a man’s satisfaction is on the top list. Yes, the top list. 50-storey buildings or more, numerous factories, mining companies and gadgets and other technology devices: these all were born because of the high-technology that we had. The never ending desires of the people to reach the comfort zone that they need, is the reason why the superiors and the intellectuals keep on searching for a new and advanced way of dealing with life. Or could it be some kind of personal gain to acquire power and wealth that they’d been yearning of, isn’t it? If they were born genius, then why would they let this “technology” keep on advancing when they all know that it would do evil in the end? Why wouldn’t they search for the solutions instead to our present problems that are, on the first place, should be the priority of everyone, right? Would this provide us the solace that we are up to? Well, I guess not. If they say that it would cause a better living, then why are we facing global problems that make us suffer? Not only us, but also our future children.
In an average kid’s point of view, Global Warming take for an example, would for me the top list of the real effects of technology. It’s the dramatic increase of our earth’s temperature, and sad to say, it’s now irreversible. Can’t you feel the scorching heat of the sun burning our soft skin? Or see the soil that was once so rich, being so dried and cracked out? Even our climate pattern was already abruptly changed! Everything seems so different. Haven’t you come into realize how big the hole that was already present in our ozone? Phew. Maybe, few years from now, our grandchildren would be like living in heaven- looks like heaven when it’s actually so hell! Or maybe, they would be playing with their robots or worse, machines would be the one who’ll run the world. Everything could happen that would be out of our control. It’s actually like we’re making our own stairway… a stairway to Death.
Ouch! Oh my… I was already drowned with thoughts that I never noticed a stone was actually there blocking my way! *Geez. I carefully stood up and cleaned myself up. And there, I went on again as if nothing bad has happened! Haha. I realized that I was actually born under a lucky star. I lived in a simple way and as a student, I couldn’t just sit back and wait for things to get worse. I could help earth in my own little way, right? Like limiting myself in destroying nature, instead I’ll help my mother in taking good care of our plants. I continued walking forward until I got home. I hurriedly reached for my “laptop” to scribble down my long-day journey that made my day special at last. =)
